Bratton’s film will have its world premiere at TIFF. However, many expected one of the bigger fall titles to take this slot, alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Not even Todd Field’s “TAR” could secure one of the three gala spots at NYFF. Bratton is primarily known for non-fiction, especially the documentary “Pier Kids”, and the Viceland series “My House.” This is his first narrative feature, and is based on Bratton’s own experiences as a gay man in Marine Corps basic training after a decade living on the streets. The film test-screened earlier in the year. There are a few reactions on Letterboxd. None really gushing with praise, but a few singling out Jeremy Pope’s performance as Elegance. I had been told earlier in the year that this was a nothingburger movie, the NYFF selection committee clearly thought otherwise. Contribute Hire me
