The latest round of criticism from Tarantino had the filmmaker criticizing the “Marvel-ization” of Hollywood on Tom Segura’s podcast. Of course, this rubbed Liu the wrong way, after all he IS Shang-Chi, but did he really need to make it about race? Liu criticizing filmmakers like Tarantino and Scorsese’s reverence for their love of “golden age” Hollywood is rich. He’s part of a money-grabbing machine (Disney/Marvel) that’s destroying the medium, but he seems oblivious to this fact, he’d rather just mention that his movie made $400 million and stars non-white actors. Liu added that Tarantino and Scorsese “are transcendent auteurs. But they don’t get to point their nose at me or anyone.” 2021’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” was a piece of crap that broke ground as the first Marvel movie with an Asian lead and grossed more than $432 million at the pandemic box office, etc. etc. A sequel has already been greenlight, Liu will pocket several millions for it, all this as quality filmmaking continues to diminish in the US.
