There was just no way that director Patty Jenkins’ DC tentpole would be skipping its theatrical release, given it’s a tentpole movie which was made very much with the intention of being seen in packed houses on the largest screen possible. However, the inevitability of other releases skipping theatrical and going straight to VOD is very much there. We already saw it with Universal recently pushing theatrical films such as “Emma,” “The Invisible Man,” and “The Hunt” straight to VOD platforms and even announcing a day-and-date release for “Trolls World Tour.” There is currently no release date change for “Wonder Woman 1984,” slated to open on June 5th. Will it move? That would all depend if the Coronavirus pandemic inflicting the globe could be contained by then.
