This isn’t necessarily a cause for concern, as far as the film’s quality, but might just be the way things worked out. If the film is well-received at Venice-Telluride then that will only build anticipation further for “Bardo.” Three of Inarritu’s last four films were Oscar-nominated for Best Picture; 2006’s “Babel,” 2014’s “Birdman” and 2015’s “The Revenant.” “Bardo” is Inarritu’s autobiographical film, shot in Mexico, that will inevitably be compared to “Roma.” It’ll probably be more accessible than Alfonso Cuaron’s film.
