In a new interview with Un Giorno de Pecorca, the 78-year-old director said the remake failed to “excite” him and said it felt more like a “betrayal.” When asked directly about the new film, Argento said: “It did not excite me, it betrayed the spirit of the original film: there is no fear, there is no music. The film has not satisfied me so much,’ adding the remake was a “refined film, even if Guadagnino, himself, was “a fine person”. Argento also added that Guadagnino’s set design made “beautiful tables, beautiful curtain, beautiful dishes, all beautiful.” Guadagnino’s remake starred Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz and featured a score by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. It proved to be a very divisive effort, garnering a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metascore of 64.
