De Palma is said to have been inspired by watching true-life crime programs on television the past three-to-four decades. He also has a Weinstein-inspired film that is currently in pre-production limbo. De Palma is coming off a badly-reviewed release, the 2019 b-movie titled “Domino.” He’s been working on “Sweet Veangance” for three years now. The film is said to NOT be in English, which is a first for the filmmaker. When asked last year to name his peak career period, De Palma didn’t choose any peak from the ‘70s or 80, but, rather, a one-two punch he had in the early ‘90s. What would I have chosen as De Palma’s peak? That 9-year streak between 1980-1989 was his peak: Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Scarface, Body Double, The Untouchables,l. (Let’s forget Wise Guys ever existed). However, I do agree with him about “Carlito’s Way”, it’s pretty close to a masterpiece and has aged very well.
